Career Specialties

Bridgette Shipley specializes in supporting college students who have been impacted by trauma, victimization and crime. Her work focuses on trauma-informed advocacy, crisis response and violence prevention education. She is particularly skilled in helping students navigate complex emotional and institutional systems following incidents of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking and other crimes.

Professional and Community ActivitiesÌý

Shipley leads the university’s Violence Prevention and Education Committee (VPEC), coordinating campus-wide efforts focused on education, outreach and prevention programming. She is also a member of the UTampa Hazing Prevention Team, where she contributes to initiatives that promote student safety and responsible student organization practices. In addition, she serves on the UTampa Veterans Committee and Advisory Group, supporting the unique needs of military-affiliated students. She is a certified R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) Instructor and regularly facilitates self-defense courses designed to empower UTampa's female students, staff and faculty.

Beyond the campus community, Shipley is an active member of both the Hillsborough County Domestic Violence Task Force and the Hillsborough County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), working collaboratively with community partners to improve coordinated care for survivors. She is a two-time member of the Puzzles Conference Advisory Committee for 2024 and 2025, where she helps shape national conversations around trauma recovery and victim services in higher education. Shipley is also a member of the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA), through which she continues her professional development and stays engaged in national best practices in victim advocacy.
